The thumbs up per dish and what it tells the owner

When the order is Served, the table page invites the guest to rate it, and the first screen asks for just one tap per dish: up or down. Here we show what the guest sees, what each tap records and what it tells you about your food.

Quick answer

It takes a single tap: with the thumbs up per dish, the guest marks each item of the served order up or down, and skips whatever they'd rather not judge. The stars apply to the whole order; the thumbs point to the item. What the owner gets is a snapshot of which dish was a hit and which wasn't.

What the thumbs up per dish is

The thumbs up per dish is the rating's first screen: the list of that order's items, each with two buttons, Liked it and Didn't like it. There's no 1-to-5 scale per item, no text field, nothing required. The guest taps whatever they like and skips the rest, while a counter at the top keeps track of how many dishes they've rated.

Each tap becomes a record tied to that order item, with the dish name copied at the moment it's sent. If you rename the item on the menu next week, the old rating still shows the name the guest saw on their plate. A cancelled item doesn't even make the list, and a custom item shows up with the text the waiter typed on the tab.

Why two buttons instead of stars on each item

  • A tap is cheap, a score is expensive. Someone who just ate is getting up, phone in one hand and the bill on their mind. Two buttons they'll press; five stars per dish and they close the page. Choosing thumbs, not stars, is what keeps the answers coming.
  • The stars praise the evening, the thumbs point to the dish. Four stars don't say whether the problem was the fries or the wait. The thumbs say exactly which item made the guest shake their head, and that's the level where you can change something in the kitchen.
  • Skipping is allowed, and that cleans up the data. Nobody has to give an opinion on the Coca-Cola. When the guest marks only what they really felt, what reaches you carries weight: it's an opinion, not a form being filled in.
  • The dish name stays frozen. Changing the price, renaming or removing the item from the menu doesn't rewrite history. What was recorded is what was on the plate that day.
  • It runs in the browser, no account and no app. The guest comes in through the table QR code, rates and leaves. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for, and qmen.us stays free for the restaurant, with no commission per order.

How the guest rates each item, from invitation to send

Six steps: three on the guest's side at the table, one for the order score, one for sending and one for what reaches you.

  1. Wait for the order to be Served

The invitation only appears once that table's order is Served and hasn't been rated yet. Then the table page shows a How was it? card, with the line Takes 30 seconds. The owner reads everything., tags with the names of what was ordered and the Rate your order button. Once the rating is sent, the card disappears: it's one rating per order.

  2. Tap the thumb on each dish

The screen opens with the title What was worth it? and the instruction Give each dish a thumbs up or down. Skip any you want. Each dish becomes a card with the name, the quantity and the line amount, like 2× · R$ 42,00, and two buttons: Liked it and Didn't like it. At the top, a small bar counts how many of the dishes have been rated.

Tip: Tapping the same button again clears that dish. Nothing is required: they can rate a single item and move on.
  3. Drop in a photo, if they feel like it

Under each dish there's Add photo. The guest picks the image from the camera or the gallery and the label changes to Photo selected; on a dish that already had a photo, the button changes to Change photo. It's optional and independent of the thumbs: they can send a photo without giving an opinion, and give an opinion without a photo.

  4. Continue to the order score

The Continue button leads to the second screen, the one for the whole order: 1 to 5 stars with a caption from Poor to Excellent, quick tags like Hot food and Slow, a Public comment and a Private note to the owner. The star is the only required part: without it, the send button stays off.

  5. See what happens on send

With Send rating, everything is saved at once: the thumbs, the photos, the score, the tags and the note. The final screen says Thanks!. If the score was 3 or less, it also tells the guest the owner has just been alerted, while they're still at the restaurant.

  6. Look at what reaches your side

On the Dashboard, the Ratings to check block lists the private notes you haven't seen yet, with the score, the order name, the time and the View order and Got it buttons. The note doesn't show on the menu and doesn't affect the score. The thumbs are stored with that order's rating, dish by dish.

Frequently asked questions

Why thumbs and not stars on each dish?+

Because a score per dish is work. The guest is getting up to leave, with their phone in one hand, and a 1-to-5 scale per item makes them stop and think five times. Two buttons settle it in one tap. The finer scale still exists, just once per order, on the score screen with the stars.

Does the guest need an account, password or app to give a thumbs up?+

No. It all runs in the phone's browser, from the table QR code; qmen.us has no app in any store. They can rate with no sign-in at all. To prevent abuse, the system limits anonymous ratings coming from the same device within the same hour and shows the Too many ratings from this device notice.

Tapped a thumb by accident? Can it be undone?+

Yes. Tapping the same button again clears the choice for that dish, and the rated-dishes counter goes back down. The guest can also move back and forth between the screens with the back arrow: what they've already marked stays marked until they send the rating.

Do cancelled items and custom items make the list?+

A cancelled item doesn't: it disappears from the rating screen. A custom item comes in as usual, with the same text the waiter typed on the tab. If the custom item went out without a name, it shows as Item.

If I rename the dish on the menu later, does the old rating change?+

No. The name is copied the moment the guest sends the rating. Changing the name, the price or even deleting the item from the menu doesn't rewrite what was already rated.

Where do I see the thumbs on the Dashboard?+

The thumbs are stored with that order's rating. What shows on the Dashboard today is the Ratings to check block, with the private notes you haven't marked as seen yet, the View order button and Got it. A report of the most and least liked dishes doesn't exist on the owner's screen yet.
