In Settings, under General, pick the Restaurant language and save. It sets the waiter and kitchen screens, the printed tickets, the ready orders screen's voice and the page for visitors with no language set. Each guest can switch to their own in the footer. The menu shows as you wrote it.
What the restaurant language changes
It's the language of the house. It applies to the staff screens, meaning the waiter app, the kitchen display and the ready orders screen; to the printed tickets; to the voice that calls out orders on the TV; and to the table QR code poster. It's also the language of the restaurant page for visitors who arrive with no language at all, such as search engines. When you register the restaurant, it starts in the language you were using on the site.
Guests are a different story: each person sees the site in their own language. The restaurant page, the table page and ordering through the QR code open in the language the person picked or, if they never picked one, in their browser's language. Only when neither is one of the 14 languages does the restaurant language apply. And what you write, such as dish names, descriptions and categories, shows exactly as you typed it: qmen.us translates its own buttons and messages, not your menu.
Why it's worth choosing carefully
- Your team reads everything in their language. Waiters and the kitchen see buttons and messages in the restaurant language, with nothing to set up on each phone, tablet or TV in the place.
- Tickets print in the kitchen's language. The fixed text on the printed ticket follows the restaurant language, not the language of whoever placed the order.
- The TV calls out in the right language. The ready orders screen's voice speaks the restaurant language, with voices made for it.
- Tourists read in their own language. Someone who opens the QR code on a phone set to English or Spanish sees the buttons and messages in English or Spanish, without anyone on staff changing a thing.
- It costs nothing. All 14 languages are part of qmen.us, which is free for the restaurant.
How to pick the language in 5 steps
Five steps, from Settings to your team and your guests each seeing their own language.
-
Open Settings
In the dashboard, open Settings. The field is in the General section, right below What to call your tables.
-
Pick the Restaurant language
Under Restaurant language, pick your team's language from the list. Each language is written in itself: Português, English, Español, Français and so on.
-
Save
Tap Save at the bottom of the page. The staff screens switch to the new language the next time they open or reload, and the next tickets already print in it.
-
Pick the voice again, if you use the TV
Each language has its own voices. After changing the language, go back to Ready orders screen, pick a voice under Voice and tap Listen to hear the sample. Until you pick one, the screen uses the new language's default voice.
-
Let each guest pick their own
In the footer of the restaurant page, the table page and the QR code ordering page there's the language list, with a globe. The guest picks theirs and the page comes back to the same spot, already in that language. The choice is saved on that phone and, if they signed in with Google, on their account.
Tip: Someone on your team prefers another language? They can pick theirs in the site's footer, on that phone. A person's own choice wins over the restaurant language.
Frequently asked questions
Does qmen.us translate my menu?+
No. Dish names, descriptions and categories show exactly as you wrote them, for every guest. What changes language are the buttons, messages and text of qmen.us itself.
What language does a guest see the restaurant page in?+
The language they picked in the footer. If they never picked one, their phone browser's language, if it's one of the 14. Only when neither works does the page open in the restaurant language, which is also what search engines read.
Can a waiter use the app in another language?+
Yes, if they pick a language in the site's footer on that phone. With no choice at all, the app opens in the restaurant language: on staff screens the browser's language doesn't count, because the place's tablet and TV belong to everyone.
Does changing the language change the text I wrote?+
No. The restaurant's name, the menu, and the names of tables and kitchens stay as they are. What changes is the language of qmen.us's own text on the staff screens, the tickets and the TV's voice.
Which are the 14 languages?+
Português, English, Español, Français, Deutsch, Italiano, Nederlands, Polski, Türkçe, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu, Tiếng Việt, Filipino and Kiswahili.
