How to use the photo library on your menu

Taking a good photo of every dish takes time, and a menu full of gray squares sells less. The qmen.us photo library takes care of the start: you pick a photo another restaurant or our team shared, and the item shows up with an image right away.

Quick answer

In the item's form, tap Pick from library, search for the dish's name, tap the photo and save. To help other restaurants, turn on Share this photo in the qmen.us library on a photo of your own: the team reviews it first. On the menu, a library photo carries a discreet i in the corner.

What the photo library is

The photo library is a collection of dish photos that other qmen.us restaurants and our team have shared. Every photo goes through a review by the qmen.us team before it's available to everyone. Whoever shared it stays anonymous: neither guests nor other owners can tell which restaurant a photo came from.

When you pick a photo from the library, the item shows that image as its main photo. Since it isn't your own dish, guests see a small, faded mark in the photo's corner, an i: tapping it, or hovering over it, shows Illustrative image. The mark doesn't cover the photo, and the same words appear when the guest enlarges it.

There's also the AI mark, for a photo made or retouched with artificial intelligence. It shows AI-generated image or AI-enhanced image, depending on what was marked on the photo. A photo can carry both marks.

Why it's worth using

  • A menu with photos from day one. Soft drinks, juice, fries, pizza: you sort out the most common items in seconds, without a photographer.
  • Honest with guests. The i mark says the photo is illustrative, so nobody feels misled when the dish arrives.
  • You help other restaurants. A good photo of yours can brighten the menu of someone just starting out.
  • The team looks at every photo. Nothing goes into the library without a review by the qmen.us team.
  • It costs nothing. The library is part of qmen.us, which is free for the restaurant.

How to pick and share photos, step by step

Six steps: the first four to use a photo from the library, the last two to share your own.

  1. Open the item in the Menu

On the Dashboard, open the Menu and tap edit on the item, or + Item for a new dish. If it's new, type the name first: the library search starts from it.

  2. Tap Pick from library

In the Photo field, next to Choose photo, tap Pick from library. The Photo library window opens, already searching for the item's name. The photos most used by restaurants come first.

  3. Search and tap the photo

If nothing fits, change the search word: pizza, burger, juice. The search ignores capital letters and accents. Tap the photo you want: it goes into the item's square and the note Photo from the qmen.us library. Guests see it marked as an illustrative image. appears.

Tip: A single-word search usually finds more. Instead of "house pepperoni pizza", try "pepperoni" and then "pizza".
  4. Save the item

Tap Save at the end of the form. Done: the photo shows on your menu, with the i mark in the corner. If one day you have a photo of your own dish, just tap Change photo and upload yours.

  5. Share a photo of your own

On an item with your own photo, Share this photo in the qmen.us library appears. Turn on the switch and read the photo library terms, linked right below it. Under Was AI used on this photo?, pick No AI, AI enhanced or AI generated. Then tap Save.

  6. Follow the review

Under the switch you'll see where the photo stands: Waiting for the qmen.us team to review it, then In the library with how many restaurants use it, or a note that the team didn't accept the photo. To stop sharing, turn off the switch and save.

Frequently asked questions

Will guests know the photo isn't of my dish?+

Yes. A photo from the library shows the i mark in the corner, which explains that it's an illustrative image. It's discreet and doesn't cover the photo, but it's there so nobody feels misled.

Does the person who shared the photo show up anywhere?+

No. Neither guests nor other owners see which restaurant a photo came from. When you share, you allow the photo to be used on menus without naming your restaurant.

Which photos can I share?+

Photos you took or have the right to share. Nothing copied from another website, a delivery app or a supplier, and nothing showing people who haven't agreed to it. The qmen.us team reviews every photo and can turn down or remove any of them.

I stopped sharing. Does the photo disappear from other menus?+

No. It leaves the library and nobody else can pick it, but restaurants already using it can keep it. Changing or removing the photo on your item also takes the old one out of the library.

Can I adjust or mark AI on a photo I picked from the library?+

No. The adjust button and the AI question only show for your own photo. A library photo keeps the AI mark it already has. If you want to change it, upload your own photo with Change photo.
