Orders and waiters

Several waiters at the same table, with no lost orders

In the lunch rush nobody keeps track of who took what: one opens the table, another brings the drinks, a third closes the bill. We built qmen.us exactly that way — the tab belongs to the table and the whole floor sees the same screen.

Quick answer

Open the tab by table, not by waiter: the order belongs to the table and shows under Active orders for everyone on the floor. Any of the restaurant's waiters can open that tab from their own link, add items, send to the kitchen, serve and close the bill.

What changes when the whole team works the floor

Several waiters at the same table is how qmen.us works by default, not a hidden setting: the order is tied to the table and the restaurant, not to the person who typed it. Who opened the tab is recorded, but that's history, not a lock. Every waiter's home screen shows the Active orders list, with a count of how many are on the floor, and every open tab in the restaurant is there.

Each person signs in through their own link, in their phone's browser — the link is personal because of the sign-in and the alerts; the floor is shared. Tap any card under Active orders and you land on the same tab your coworker was working on, with the same items, the same status and the same total. There's no "transfer table", because no table belongs to anyone.

Why several waiters at one table doesn't create chaos

  • Nobody is held hostage by one phone. If the person who opened the tab went to the register, is stuck in line or already ended their shift, any coworker can carry on with the same bill: add items, send to the kitchen, serve and close. No order stalls because someone disappeared.
  • What already went to the kitchen doesn't change by itself. A sent item is locked for everyone — qmen.us warns that the item already went to the kitchen. Only new lines, not yet sent, can be edited or discarded, so two waiters don't trip over each other on the same tab.
  • One table can hold separate bills. When the table already has an order, qmen.us offers to open another and asks for a name to tell them apart. Two groups at the same table become two tabs, each with its own total, and nobody ends up paying for the beer of someone who already left.
  • The guest's call goes to whoever is least busy. Instead of everyone getting the same alert, Call waiter on the table page notifies the waiter with the fewest active orders and shows the guest the name of who was notified. Less shouting across the floor, more people served.
  • You see the workload live. On the Dashboard, the Waiters on shift block shows who is serving and how many orders each one has in hand; the team cards show each person's tables, today's orders and tables served.

How to share tables across the team, step by step

From adding the team to closing the bill, this is the full path for several people to work the same floor without mixing up tabs. Do it once with the team together and it becomes routine.

  1. Add each waiter with their own link

On the restaurant's Dashboard, open the Waiters card and tap Manage. Each person becomes a card with their own address, in the format qmen.us/your-restaurant/w/waiter-name, which opens in the phone's browser — nothing to download from any store. There you also set the password or let the person sign in with Google.

  2. Mark who's on the floor right now

In the corner of the card there's the On shift / Off shift button. It doesn't block anything: it's there so you and the team know who's working. The top of the page shows how many are registered, how many are on shift now, how many orders the team has in hand and how many were placed today.

  3. Open the table from the waiter's home screen

On the waiter app's home screen, under New order, tap the table under Choose a table and then Open Table 5. The order starts as a Draft, tied to that table and the restaurant. The Order name field is optional and helps identify who it is (John, counter, birthday).

  4. Let any coworker pick up the tab

Right below is Active orders, with a count of how many are on the floor. That list belongs to the whole restaurant: every open tab shows up, with table, number of items, total and status. Any waiter taps a card and lands on the same tab, ready to take more items or to be served.

  5. Keep two bills apart at the same table

A table that already has an order is marked in the picker. When you tap it, the button changes to New order · Table 5 and qmen.us warns you: this table already has an order — give it a name to tell the orders apart. That way the table carries two tabs side by side, each with its own total and its own closing.

Tip: Use the guest's name in the Order name field. It's what shows in the list and keeps you from bringing the wrong bill when the table has two groups.
  6. Send to the kitchen and lock what went out

With the items on screen, tap Send to kitchen. From then on those lines are locked: if someone tries to delete one, qmen.us replies that the item was already sent to the kitchen. New items entered later wait for the next send and can be removed with Discard new items.

  7. Know who gets the alert when it's READY

When the station marks it done, the phone of whoever opened the tab vibrates and shows the Ready to serve bar with a shortcut to the table. The other waiters don't get the vibration, but they see the Ready status in the list — and anyone can open it and tap Serve order or Serve item by item.

  8. Answer the call and close the bill

If the guest taps Call waiter on the table page, qmen.us notifies whoever has the fewest active orders and tells the guest that person's name. At the end, any waiter uses Close bill — R$ 42,00, Mark as paid and Free table to release the table for the next guests.

Frequently asked questions

Can I lock a table to a single waiter?+

No. That lock doesn't exist in qmen.us: every open tab shows under Active orders for all of the restaurant's waiters, and all of them can add items, serve, close the bill and free the table. How you split up sections is still agreed among you, on the floor, as it always was.

Does the person who opened the tab keep getting the alerts?+

Yes. The Ready to serve banner, with the vibration and beep on the phone, goes to the waiter who opened that tab. The others don't get the alert, but they see the Ready status on the order card and can serve as usual.

Can two waiters add items to the same tab at the same time?+

Yes. Each tap creates a line on the same tab and both see the same list when the screen updates. What was already sent is locked; only new items, not yet sent, can be edited or discarded with Discard new items.

How does qmen.us decide who answers when the guest calls?+

When the guest taps Call waiter on the table page, qmen.us picks the active waiter with the fewest active orders at that moment (ties are broken by name) and makes their phone vibrate with the table. The guest sees a notice with the name of who was alerted.

Are the day's numbers split by waiter?+

Yes. On each person's card, under Waiters, you see active orders with the tables in hand, orders today and tables served. The count uses the waiter who opened the order, so it shows who started the tab, not who gave it the last taps.

Is there a cost per registered waiter?+

No. qmen.us is free for the restaurant and charges no commission per order, so you can add as many waiters as you like. qmen.us also doesn't process money: PIX and other payments are settled directly between the guest and the restaurant.
