How to close the table's bill at the end of service

Closing the bill is the point where the tab stops growing: the waiter locks out new items and the total is frozen for checking and payment. It's not the same as freeing the table — the table stays occupied until someone says it's free.

Quick answer

Open the order in the waiter app and tap Close bill — the button already shows the total. Confirm the prompt and the bill closes right away: closing the table's bill locks out new items. The table stays occupied until someone taps Free table.

What closing the bill means in qmen.us

Closing the table's bill tells the system that the order is done taking items. The Close bill button sits in the order's management block, inside the waiter app, with the total next to it: Close bill — R$ 42,00. Before applying it, the app asks: Close the bill? You can't add items after that.

After closing, the order moves to the Served status, the menu and the Add custom item button disappear from the screen, and in their place you see a read-only summary, labeled Bill closed, with the Total line. You can only close an order that was already sent to the kitchen — a Draft can't be closed, and neither can a cancelled order.

Why close the bill before taking payment

  • Nobody enters an item on the wrong bill. Once closed, the tab won't accept new items, neither from the menu nor custom items. No more last beer slipping onto the bill while the guest is already paying.
  • The total stops moving. The amount in the summary is the same one you just told the guest, adding up every item that wasn't cancelled, including variable-price items sold by the kilo or portion.
  • Closing isn't freeing. The table stays occupied and the order stays on the waiter screen and on the table's public page until someone taps Free table. You can close the bill without rushing and only free the table when the guests get up.
  • The screen gets simpler at payment time. With the list frozen, only the actions that matter there remain: Mark as paid, Free table and Hide from table page.

How to close the table's bill in 5 steps

Five steps, from the open order to a table ready for the next guests.

  1. Open the table's order

On the waiter app's home screen, tap the order's card. Each card shows the table, the number of items and the current total, so you can check the amount even before opening it.

  2. Serve whatever is still READY

If there's still a READY item waiting, the Serve order button shows up in green and clears them all at once. It's worth doing before closing: once the bill is closed the list becomes a summary and you lose item-by-item control.

  3. Check the total with the guest

Tap the View order bar at the bottom to open the full list with the items and the total. This is where you check custom items typed on the spot, notes and anything cancelled — a cancelled item doesn't count toward the total.

  4. Tap Close bill

Tap Close bill — the button shows the total, like Close bill — R$ 42,00. The app asks if you're sure, because you can't add items afterwards. Confirm and the bill closes right away, showing as closed for the owner on the Dashboard and on the table's page.

Tip: Closed it too soon and the guest wants one more thing? There's no reopen button: open a new order at the same table and give it a name to keep the two tabs apart.
  5. Take payment and, only then, free the table

With the bill closed, settle payment with the guest and tap Mark as paid — qmen.us doesn't process money, this button only records what already happened. When the guests get up, tap Free table to release it for the next guests.

Frequently asked questions

Does closing the bill free the table?+

No. They're two separate actions: closing locks out new items, and Free table is what releases the table for the next guests. Until you free it, the table shows as occupied and the order stays on its public page.

Can I reopen a closed bill?+

There's no reopen button. If the guest orders something else, open a new order at the same table: the app warns that it already has an order and suggests giving it a name, so the two tabs stay separate.

Can the owner close the bill from the Dashboard?+

Yes. On the Dashboard, open View order and use the Close bill button on the order screen. It's the same action as in the waiter app, with the same confirmation prompt.

Can I close a Draft?+

No. A Draft is an order that hasn't gone to the kitchen yet, so there's no bill to close — what you have there is Discard draft. Send the order first; after that, the Close bill button appears.

Does qmen.us collect the payment when I close the bill?+

No. We never touch the money: PIX, Brazil's instant payment system, is settled directly between guest and restaurant, and Mark as paid is only there to record it. qmen.us is free for the restaurant, with no commission per order.

Can I still cancel the order after closing?+

Not from the app: once the bill is closed the order is marked Served, and the Cancel order button leaves the screen. Check the list with the View order bar before you confirm.
