How to switch Table to Tab on the qmen.us screens

Some places don't have tables: the guest picks up a numbered tab at the counter, walks around and pays on the way out. qmen.us lets you pick the word your restaurant uses, and it applies to your whole team and to your guests.

Quick answer

Open your restaurant's Settings, find the What to call your tables field and choose Tab instead of Table. Tap Save: that's how you switch Table to Tab, and the new label shows up on the tables screen, in the waiter app, in the kitchen and on the order the guest follows.

What the Table or Tab term in Settings is

qmen.us stores a single term per restaurant, with two options: Table (the default) or Tab. That term controls the label on every screen when you decide to switch Table to Tab — we don't create a new record or duplicate anything, we just change the word that appears over the same spot as always.

In practice, each spot you've added stays the same record, with the same table code and the same QR code. What changes is the name on screen: the list becomes Tabs, the New table button becomes New tab, and the order that was Table 7 becomes Tab 7 on the kitchen display, in the waiter app, on the Dashboard and on the page the guest opens to follow their order.

Why the right word is worth choosing

  • It's the word your guests already hear. If your restaurant hands out a numbered tab at the counter, reading Table 12 on screen is confusing. With the right term, the system speaks the same language as your dining room.
  • Nobody has to translate in the middle of a rush. Waiter, kitchen and guest all see the same label, so the order sent from the phone is the same one that shows on the display and on the tracking page.
  • It doesn't touch QR codes or links. The QR code points to the spot's address, like qmen.us/your-code/t/7/, and that address doesn't depend on the term. There's nothing to reprint.
  • You can switch back anytime. It's a picker with two options. Picked the wrong one? Pick again and save — no order, no spot and no history gets lost along the way.

How to switch Table to Tab in 6 steps

Six steps, and none of them asks you to set anything up again.

  1. Open your restaurant's Settings

On the Dashboard, at qmen.us/restaurante/painel/, tap Settings. It's the same screen where you set your logo, address, phone numbers and hours — the term lives there because it applies to the whole restaurant, not to a single spot.

  2. Find the What to call your tables field

Scroll down to the What to call your tables field, right below the Phone numbers block. The hint under the field already gives the rule of thumb: use Tab if the guest gets a numbered tab instead of sitting at a table.

  3. Choose Table or Tab

The picker has two options, Table and Tab. Table is the default if you've never touched it. Choose the one your team says day to day — there's no third word to type in.

  4. Tap Save

The Save button is at the end of the block. We save it and take you back to the Dashboard. If the field ends up empty for some reason, qmen.us keeps the term you already had — nobody loses the setting by accident.

  5. Check your everyday screens

On the Dashboard, the occupancy card now reads Tabs in use. On the spots screen, the title becomes Tabs and the buttons become New tab, Tab QR code and Remove this tab?. The waiter app shows Choose a tab, and in the kitchen the order arrives as Tab 7.

  6. Know when the prefix is added

The prefix is only added when the spot's label is just a number: 7 becomes Tab 7. If you gave it a name, like Counter 2 or Window table, qmen.us shows the name exactly as you wrote it, without sticking Tab in front.

Tip: Want the number to show with the term in the kitchen and on the guest's screen? Leave the Name field empty and use only the number in the table code.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to reprint the QR codes after changing the term?+

No. The QR code points to the spot's address, like qmen.us/your-code/t/7/, and that address doesn't change with the term. The stickers and the printed sheet you've already put up keep working.

Which screens still show the word table?+

Some behind-the-scenes screens have fixed text: a spot's detail page (with Rename table and Table QR code), the QR code print sheet and the Tables shortcut on the Dashboard. The screen's address also stays /restaurante/mesas/. And at the top of the page the guest opens from the QR code, the chip still says Table; the chosen term shows up once there's an order, on the tracking screen.

Why does my Counter 2 show without the prefix?+

Because the prefix is only added when the label is just a number. A spot called 7 becomes Tab 7; a spot called Counter 2 or Window table shows exactly as you wrote it, so it doesn't turn into Tab Counter 2.

Can I use Table and Tab at the same time?+

No. The term is one choice per restaurant and the picker has only two options. What you can do is give each spot a name in the Name field when you create it, and then a Counter 1 can sit alongside a Tab 7 in the same list.

Do old orders change their name too?+

Yes. The label is put together when the screen loads, from whatever term is set at that moment. So the history, the Dashboard and the order details start showing Tab 7 where they used to show Table 7.

Does changing the term delete anything?+

Nothing. Your spots, codes, QR codes, orders and history all stay the same. The switch only changes the word that appears on screen, and you can go back to the previous term whenever you like.
