How to accept pay on delivery instead of PIX

Not every customer wants to send a PIX payment (Brazil's instant payment system) before eating, and not every restaurant wants to hold an order while waiting for the payment to land. Once you turn on payment at the door, the customer can choose to get the food first and settle up with the driver, and the order goes straight to the kitchen.

Quick answer

Turn on Pay on delivery in Settings, under Accept home delivery orders, and tap Save. In the chat the customer chooses Pay when it arrives: the order isn't held waiting for confirmation, it goes straight to the kitchen and the driver collects at the door.

What changes when the customer pays at the door

Pay on delivery is a toggle in your restaurant's Settings. When it's on, the ordering chat offers customers at home the option Pay when it arrives — the driver collects, at the door, in cash or by card machine. qmen.us never touches the money: it only records that the order was agreed to be paid on delivery.

This option sits next to the PIX one, inside Accept home delivery orders, and both can be on at the same time. Then the chat asks "How would you like to pay?" and lets the customer choose between paying now via PIX and paying when it arrives. Orders placed in the dining room through the table QR code don't get this question: at the table, the bill is still closed the usual way, on the tab.

Why offer payment at the door

  • The order isn't held waiting for confirmation. When the customer chooses to pay at the door, the order is sent right away: the Draft becomes a sent order, the items appear on the kitchen display and, if the prep station prints, the ticket comes out too.
  • You don't need to check your statement in the middle of a rush. On the PIX path the order sits in the Payments to confirm block on the Dashboard until you tap Confirm payment. With pay on delivery there's no such queue — payment is settled at the door.
  • Customers without PIX at hand keep ordering. Cash and card machines still rule a lot of neighborhood delivery. Demanding PIX upfront means losing the order from someone who'd rather see the food before paying.
  • Whoever takes the order out leaves with everything they need. The chat asks for address, name and phone number before wrapping up, and the order shows those three things along with the note "Payment: on delivery".
  • No commission and no middleman. qmen.us is free for the restaurant and isn't a marketplace: the order amount goes entirely to your register, with no fee per order and nobody in between.

How to turn on pay on delivery in 6 steps

There are six steps inside Settings, and the last one is a test order just so you can see it happen in the kitchen.

  1. Open your restaurant's Settings

On the Dashboard, go to Settings. The toggle we're looking for is in the first block, General, well past the name, the phone numbers and What to call your tables. Scroll until you find the ordering options.

  2. Turn on ordering via chat

The first toggle in the sequence is Self-ordering with the virtual waiter (chat) — it's what lets customers order on their own, at the table through the QR code or from your public page. While it's off, the options below don't even appear on the screen: they're sub-options of this one.

  3. Accept delivery orders

Right below it, Accept home delivery orders appears. Turn it on. When it's off, the restaurant only takes orders from guests seated in the dining room, and no payment question shows up in the chat — in the dining room the bill is settled as always, when the tab is closed.

  4. Turn on the Pay on delivery toggle

Inside the delivery block, turn on Pay on delivery. The text under it sums up the deal: the customer pays the driver on the spot, in cash or by card machine, and the order goes straight to the kitchen. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Save — without that, nothing counts.

Tip: If you also use PIX, leave both on and the customer decides. With only PIX on, every delivery order waits for your Confirm payment before going to the prep station.
  5. Place a test order through the public page

Open your public page on your phone and put together an order in the chat. It asks whether you're at the restaurant or at home; choose At home and enter an address, name and phone number. With both payment methods on, the question How would you like to pay? comes up; tap the option to pay when it arrives. With only delivery on, the chat doesn't even ask: it says the driver will collect on delivery and sends the order.

  6. Watch the order land in the kitchen

The card shows up right away on the prep station's display, labeled Delivery instead of the table number, and follows the usual path from Preparing to READY. On the Dashboard, open the order: there you'll find the address, the customer's phone number and the line Payment: on delivery, which tells whoever is taking it out to bring change or the card machine.

Frequently asked questions

Does the order wait for any confirmation from me?+

No. When the customer chooses to pay at the door, the order is sent immediately: it leaves Draft, goes to the kitchen and prints, if the prep station has a printer. It's the other path, PIX, that waits — that one does wait for you to tap Confirm payment on the Dashboard.

Can I turn on only pay on delivery, without PIX?+

Yes. With only that option on, the chat asks nothing about payment: it says the driver will collect on delivery and wraps up the order. One less tap for the customer, one less chance of them giving up halfway.

What if I leave both off?+

Delivery orders keep working normally, but the chat doesn't talk about payment with the customer. The order goes straight to the kitchen and settling up is up to you, using the phone number the customer gave in the chat, which appears on the order.

Does qmen.us receive the money or charge a commission?+

Never. qmen.us doesn't process money: with PIX the key is yours and the customer pays you directly, and with pay on delivery the money stays in the hands of whoever delivered. There's no fee per order, it isn't a marketplace and the system is free for the restaurant.

Does this apply to guests who ordered through the table QR code?+

No. The payment question only exists on delivery orders placed through the public page. Guests who ordered at the table stay in the usual flow: items keep adding up on the tab and the bill is closed at the end, in the dining room.

Is there a field for how much change to bring?+

No. The chat saves address, name and phone number, and the order records that payment is on delivery — you sort out change by phone before heading out, using the number that came with the order.
